- 1. Can you give a second opinion on an existing quote?
We are always happy to offer quotes for new work, if you have been given a quote from another supplier we can quote on the equipment level they have recommended but would complete a free site visit to confirm that equipment levels are correct.
- 2. Do we remove old fire extinguishers from site?
We can remove old fire extinguishers from site if requested, extinguishers are the property of the site owner and as such we need to be asked to remove them. Fire extinguishers require to be disposed of in an appropriate way. We use a specialist company who removes them from us for safe disposal and recycling. The cost to remove the fire extinguishers from your site is free if we replace it but a small fee is charged if no replacement is required.
- 3. Do you deal with private landlords?
Yes, we service multi-occupancy properties for alarms, extinguishers and emergency lighting. We also carry out weekly or monthly checks on sites to help the landlords if necessary.
- 4. Do you sell alarms and extinguishers to homeowners?
Yes we do, private houses are covered by different rules to commercial properties, a normal house will only require linked smoke alarms whereas a larger domestic property will come under LD3 regulations and will require monitored detection. - 5. Do you sell extinguishers?
Yes we do but we like to make sure you have the right one for the purpose with either a site visit or at the very least a phone call. It is a requirement of the British Standards to ensure that the correct fire extinguishers are supplied and installed correctly.
- 6. How do I know which fire extinguisher is right for me?

- 9. What is a closed protocol fire alarm?
A fire alarm uses technology similar to computers to communicate with the various devices that form the alarm, the language used is called the protocol, there are a number of protocols and the most common are Apollo and Hochiki these are true open protocols and allow fire alarm system designers to select the appropriate fire control panel for the site. Open Protocols allow you to choose the service company as any qualified engineer can do a manufacturers course to work on the system. Closed protocol systems are kept within the manufacturers own engineers, these systems can be offered at a significant price reduction on initial quote as they can only be worked on by the manufacturer so the maintenance can be more expensive and replacement parts tend to be at a higher cost than those of the open protocol manufacturers.
- 10. What is a fire log book, do we need one?
A fire log book is required by all companies, the log book should contain lists of all fire equipment and their locations. The log book is also used to record the statutory inspections, false alarms, repairs, staff training and evacuation drills. The log book WILL be inspected if a Fire Officer or Health & Safety inspection is conducted.
- 11. What is a service certificate?
A service certificate is issued after the service visit, extinguisher certificates must contain a list of extinguishers serviced, it must identify if there are defects at the time of service and if any recommendations are required would be accompanied by an engineer’s report. The alarm certificate includes what work has been done the extent of the service and recommendations or defects are reported on the certificate.
- 12. What is an equipment type and location list?
The equipment list contains a comprehensive location and device type listing, this list normally forms part of the fire log book, as a service company we also carry a list which contains a service history with us and can supply you with such a list after conducting a service free of charge.
- 13. Where are Fire Hose reels installed as a necessity?
Fire hose reels are best suited to larger areas where they will not block fire doors or cause trip hazards, they would normally be found on mobile home sites and large warehouses were the constant flow of water would be beneficial. Your risk assessment should take into consideration the fact that there is constant water flow so in an incident staff using a hose reel may actually find themselves in danger from smoke inhalation or fire trapping them.
